Crime Scene Quilts

CRIME SCENE QUILTS

As a former assistant prosecuting attorney currently in private practice, Vickie Hylton often hears from child protective services workers who describe children being carried from crime scenes or abusive homes with only the clothes on their back.

“It’s bad enough you’re being taken away from your home without anything you own,” Hylton said. “Sometimes you don’t even get to take your shoes or coat.”

So, since the spring of 2015, Hylton and her mother, Judy Davis, have been working on making child-size quilts for officers with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department to wrap the children in, and hopefully provide some support when they come across them during traumatizing calls.

HOW TO IRON EMBROIDERY

HOW TO IRON EMBROIDERY

40132_8_ LAURASTAR PULSE ANNIVERSARY - IRON - PLATE

  1. Make sure you are ironing on a thick, cushioned ironing board or surface to assist in absorbing moisture from iron steam.
  2. Place embroidery face down on ironing board surface.  Never iron directly on embroidery.
  3. Use an iron with a protective, soft-press sole plate to reduce the pressure on the embroidered surface.
  4. Use an iron steam setting that is low ~ for delicate or dark fabrics

INSPIRATION AND CREATIVITY

INSPIRATION AND CREATIVITY

To create…to make art…is a desire to clothe inspiration.

A great artist is but a conduit for an expression that resonates with something that is greater than him or herself.  When we craft beauty, our creation is the utterance of inspiration.  When we are creating, we are conduits, mediums, instruments being played to serve as inspiration to the greater good.

Call for Instructors and Lecturers: QuiltCon 2017

Call for Instructors and Lecturers: QuiltCon 2017

The Modern Quilt Guild

teacher-lecturer-submissions

QuiltCon wouldn’t be what it is without the amazing instructors and presenters who share their wisdom in workshops and lectures. We’ve had some amazing speakers throughout the years, and now we’re opening the floor for applications for QuiltCon 2017 in Savannah, Georgia!

We’re looking for experienced instructors who can teach techniques of interest to modern quilters. Our workshop instructors are leaders in their fields for a specific technique, and they offer unique workshops that inform and inspire. QuiltCon instructors also teach techniques that are new to many modern quilters.

In general, we like a balance of technique-based and project-based workshops.

For more details on the application process, please read the application details and complete a submission. Please read through the whole page completely before emailing us with questions.

The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2016 at midnight CST, and applicants will be notified by March 31, 2016. Good luck!

And here’s a little more progress…

Quilts by “Ruthie quilts! And quilts…”

Ruthie quilts! And quilts...

The deadline for the Utah State Fair is rapidly approaching…  I’ll share my challenge quilt when the Fair opens!  Before the deadline on Thursday, I have to get my label made and sewn on.  I also have to get the quilt ready for hanging.  It’s almost there!

These are some projects that I’ve been working on as well…

127_0650This is a “Happy Chemo” quilt that is going to be turned in this week.

127_0647I got this one quilted for m partner in the Kaffe Mini Quilt Swap.  The deadline for that is coming up as well!

127_0648This is another layout of the same quilt, with the blocks positioned differently.

(You may see something similar with my Fair Challenge Quilt, but shhhh….  Don’t tell!)

I have 2 more client quilts to get quilted, but both are relatively small.  More coming soon!  Thanks for stopping by…
